A boat recovery off Jamaica showed me tropical dives aren't all they're cracked up to be
I took a contract for a sunken vessel pull in those clear blue waters. The cash was low and the local boat traffic made it sketchy. How come we still fall for the idea that diving in pretty places is better?

Tell me about it. Fell for a "crystal clear spring" gig once. Spent half the dive untangling my line from a shopping cart and an old bike. The pictures just show the one patch without the junk, right? Guess we all want to believe the brochure.

That bit about local boat traffic making it sketchy really says it all. We see the photos of the clear water and just assume the whole job will be that smooth. Why do we let the pretty picture win over the real details like bad pay and actual working conditions? You figure we'd learn after getting burned once.

Yeah, Carter.Julia is right about the pretty pictures... reminds me of a time I got sold on a "pristine" lake job from a brochure. The site was right next to a busy ferry lane, so the whole dive felt like a game of chicken with propellers. The view from below is never the same as the postcard.
