Cleaned my 200th dive helmet today and it hit me

That's a full year of daily gear checks on the Gulf coast jobs. I remember thinking the first one took forever, but now I can strip and clean a Kirby Morgan in under twenty minutes. It's not just about speed though, it's about knowing every bolt and seal by feel in the dark. What's a gear maintenance task that you can now do with your eyes closed?

Lol, that's some serious muscle memory. I could probably reassemble my entire camping stove while half asleep, but a dive helmet? That's next level. Bet you could do it with one hand tied behind your back.

Sounds like a party trick more than a real skill.

Ever try to learn something by doing it over and over until your hands just know? That's what worked for me. I had to get good at a tricky knot for sailing, so I just practiced every single night while watching TV. After a few weeks, my fingers could do it without me even looking. It stops being a trick and just becomes something you know how to do.
