Had a weird echo on the comms during a hull clean in Seattle last week
It was a steady, high-pitched ring that came through every time the tender keyed the mic. We swapped out the whole surface unit, but it didn't fix it. Has anyone else had a comms echo that wasn't from a bad cable connection?

Oh man, that sounds exactly like a gremlin we chased in Portland. We had that same high-pitched ring on a channel, drove us nuts for a day. Turned out to be a weird grounding loop from a new power supply they'd installed on the dock, of all things. Had to isolate the circuit.

Yeah grounding loops are the worst, they just show up out of nowhere. It's always some tiny change you'd never think about, like a new power strip or a different cable run. The ringing is so distinct though, once you've heard it you never forget that sound. We ended up putting ferrite cores on everything as a band-aid until we found the real source. Took forever to trace it back to a single bad outlet.
