Hot take: I finally gave up hand jetting riser pipes and let the water blaster do it
For 4 seasons I ran a hand jet up every riser on the Gulf rigs and swore a machine would chew up the pipe. Then we hit a 200 ft riser off Galveston that was packed solid, and I watched a guy named Dale take it down in 3 passes with a 20k psi water blaster while I was still coupling my first joint. The tip pressure stayed even the whole way, no bouncing, and his footage per shift was double mine with none of the shoulder pain I was getting at age 47. I ran the blaster myself on the next two jobs and the wall thickness readings afterward came back clean both times. I am not saying hand jetting is dead for tight spots, but for long risers I was just wrong. What psi and tip setup are you guys running on risers, and does anyone still hand jet them on purpose?
