I finally stopped trusting the guy who says "just check it topside" before every wet weld
Had a job last week at the pier in Astoria, 40 feet down, and the tender kept telling me the ground was fine because the meter read good up top. I burned two rods before I realized my voltage was dropping once I hit depth, and the weld looked like chewed gum. The surface readout never shows you the real story when you're working cold water with a long lead, and anybody who's been wet longer than a year knows it. You check your own gauges at depth or you eat the rework. What do you guys run for voltage drop on dives past 30 feet?
