I was cleaning my Kirby helmet wrong for years until a buddy in Seattle pointed it out
I always thought a quick rinse with fresh water after a saltwater job was enough, maybe a wipe down with a rag. Did that for maybe five years. Then last month, I'm working a dock repair job up in Seattle, and my dive partner sees me pack up my helmet. He stops me and says, 'You know you're letting salt build up in the voice tube, right? That's why you sound like a robot sometimes.' He showed me his routine: he uses a small squeeze bottle to force fresh water through the tube from the inside after every dive. I tried it that night and a bunch of white salt crystals actually came out the other end. My comms have been crystal clear ever since. What other small gear cleaning tricks are people using that make a big difference?

That's not salt, that's mineral scale from hard water.

Wait, you're telling me that whole crust isn't even salt? Richard_mason, that means my kettle has been lying to me for years. I feel so betrayed by my own appliances.
