Picked a Kirby Morgan knockoff over a real SuperLite 17 and my ears paid for it
Six months ago I had to choose between a used SuperLite 17 for $4,800 and a no-name clone for $1,900 for shallow harbor work in Galveston. I went with the clone because the guy swore the demand valve was "the same casting." Three dives in, the exhaust valve stuck open at 30 feet and my backup had to yank me by the hose while I fought the free flow. Turns out the casting was the same, the machining was not even close. Has anyone found a knockoff that actually holds up, or should I just eat the money and buy real?
