PSA: A kinked garden hose reminded me about umbilical safety
I was dealing with a tangled hose in my yard this morning. It clicked that our dive umbilicals can get just as messed up. From now on, I'm spending more time setting up my lines properly. A smooth run above means a safer dive below. Funny how home chores can improve work habits.

Back in my certification course, they said umbilical problems often begin with small twists. That constant bending wears out the inside layer long before the outside looks bad. Your hose reminder is key for spotting those hidden issues.

My buddy Jake had a close call last month. He didn't notice a kink in his line during setup, and it almost caused a REAL problem underwater. Now he checks every inch before diving, just like your hose lesson.

Forget just checking before the dive. I find most kinks happen during storage or transport. Found my backup reg hose doing some creative bends in my gear bag last week.
