PSA: the brass helmet I wore in 1998 at Port Aransas weighed 27 pounds and I still miss how simple the job was
Last week a new kid asked me why old divers talk about heavy gear like it was better, and I told him that after 3 years of diving a lightweight helmet with comms and a bailout, part of me still misses the days when all I had to worry about was my air hose and a good tender on the surface, so does anybody else here feel weirdly loyal to the gear that tried to kill them?
the gear that tried to kill them" feels like a bit much lol. A heavy brass helmet sucks to wear but it's not out to get you, the guy not checking your hose is. Sounds more like missing being young and dumb than missing the gear.
