Appreciation post: the line cook who told me to skip the fancy brunch spot and try the pupusa truck behind the laundromat on 5th
A guy I work with grew up two blocks from me and swore the best cheap eats in town were not at the places with lines out the door. He said to hit the pupusa truck parked behind the laundromat on 5th, cash only, and to go before 11am or the curtido runs out. I finally tried it last Saturday and paid $3 for two pupusas that were better than the $14 plate I got at that brunch spot downtown the weekend before. The truck has no sign, just a hand painted board, and the woman running it has been there 9 years according to the guy in line ahead of me. Has anyone else been steered toward a spot that looks sketchy from the street but ends up being the real deal?

Wait, the curtido runs out before 11am? That is the most stressful breakfast deadline I have ever heard. I got dragged to a spot like that once, a tiny taco window inside a car wash of all places, and I almost bailed when I saw the line of guys in wet flip flops. Best al pastor of my life, and the guy running it gave me extra pineapple for free because I looked confused. Nine years in the same spot with no sign tells you everything you need to know about that pupusa woman.
