Found a quiet park in Grand Rapids by skipping the main lot, but is that fair to the rest of us?
The lot off Wealthy Street fills up by 9am on Saturdays, so a guy at the hardware counter told me to park at the church two blocks east and walk in from the side street, and it got me in with no wait. I've done it four weekends in a row now and the park is empty back there while the front gate is a mess. So I'm torn: is sharing workarounds like this just being a good neighbor, or does it ruin the spot once enough people hear about it? Curious how you all handle it, do you keep a good shortcut to yourself or pass it along?
The part where you ask if it's fair to the rest of us is where I see it a little different. If the church lot is open to the public and the walk is short, that's not really a secret shortcut, it's just another entrance, and the folks who park there on a Sunday don't get hurt by a few cars on Saturday. What actually bothers me is the idea that keeping it quiet is the neighborly move, because that mostly protects the people already in the know while everyone else keeps circling the main lot. A quiet park that stays quiet because people guard the way in just means the next family who shows up gets turned around with no idea there was an easier option. Far as I can tell, the fix isn't hiding the side street, it's the town making the walk in from the side streets obvious so nobody has to hear it from a guy at the hardware counter. I'd pass it along and not lose a minute of sleep over it.
