PSA: The 'secret' taco window on the east side of the bridge in Laredo only takes cash and closes at 2pm
I walked past that little pink building for 8 months thinking it was a payday loan place until my neighbor Rosa grabbed my arm and said 'that's the best barbacoa in town, go before noon on Saturday.' I finally went last weekend, spent $6 on three tacos that blew away the $14 plate I get downtown, and realized the whole reason I never noticed it is there's no sign out front. How many other spots am I walking past just because they don't look like anything from the street?
Man, this is so real. I had a barber back home who cut hair out of his garage for 15 years and I drove past it every single day without knowing. No sign, just a chair visible through a half open door. Same thing with this lady who sells tamales out of her trunk on Sundays, everybody in the neighborhood knows but nobody talks about it like it's a secret. The best stuff never advertises because it doesn't have to, it just runs on word of mouth and people trusting each other. Makes you wonder what else is hiding right in front of you the whole time.
