I walked past that taco truck on 5th and Main for two years without ever stopping because it sits behind a laundromat and looks a little rough. My barber Luis kept telling me the al pastor there beats the sit-down place down the street that charges $14 for three tacos, but I figured he was just loyal to his neighborhood. Last Friday I finally tried it and got four tacos plus a drink for $9 total, and the pork had this crispy edge with pineapple that the fancy spot never gets right. The guy running it remembered Luis by name and threw in extra salsa verde when I mentioned who sent me. I sat on a plastic crate in the parking lot and watched people pull up in work trucks, and every single one of them knew their order by heart. Turns out the sit-down place has a 40 minute wait on weekends while this truck never has more than three people in line. Now I feel silly for all those times I walked right past it. Anyone else got a spot they ignored for ages because it looked sketchy from the outside?
