That $15 waterproof map holder I bought for hiking in Asheville fell apart on the first rain

Bought it last spring at a little outdoor shop off Merrimon, figured it'd save me from my phone getting soaked on the trail, but the seal ripped before I even reached the summit, so now I just use a Ziploc bag, has anyone else gotten burned by gear that looks tougher than it is?
