TIL the free map kiosk in the Grand Lake library lobby has a hand-drawn list of food spots taped inside it
I kept striking out trying to find cheap lunch near the lake, everything on my phone app showed places that closed 2 years ago or cost $18 for a sandwich. Last week I ducked into the Grand Lake library to kill time and noticed the old wooden map kiosk by the front door had a sheet of notebook paper taped inside one of the windows. It is a list of about 14 spots written in pen by someone local, with stuff like a tamale cart that parks behind the laundromat at 11am and a bakery that sells day-old bags for $3 after 4. I hit 3 of them in one afternoon and two of them were not even showing up on a normal search at all, like the little Filipino counter inside the grocery on Lake Park Ave that hands out $6 plates. The paper looks like it gets updated by hand, there were notes crossed out and new ones squeezed in the margins. I asked the front desk and the guy just shrugged and said people add to it all the time. Now I swing by any branch library when I am in a new part of town and check for a taped list. Has anyone seen one of these in other cities, or is this just a Grand Lake thing?
