My fantasy city map took two years to get right
I started a story set in a floating city, and I thought the map would be a quick sketch. I got stuck trying to make the districts feel real and the travel times between them make sense. I must have redrawn the entire layout five times, adding and removing bridges, markets, and slums. The first draft took a weekend, but the final version, with all the notes on culture and trade routes, wasn't done until last spring. What's the longest you've spent on a single worldbuilding detail that seemed simple at first?

Two years is a serious grind. I've been there with a magic system, trying to make the rules feel natural instead of just a plot tool. It started as a simple idea about color-based powers and turned into a whole mess of cause and effect I had to balance. Sometimes you just have to call it done before it eats your whole life. The trick is knowing when good enough is actually good enough.

Wait, color-based powers? That's a new one. Sounds like a fast track to a logic headache. Honestly, the best magic system is one that doesn't need a manual to understand.
