The barista who guessed my novel's ending in 30 seconds
Last Tuesday I was at Blue Bottle on 5th Ave rewriting chapter 14 for the sixth time. The barista, a guy named Marcus, glanced at my laptop and said 'the sister did it, right?' I nearly choked on my latte. He was spot on, I had buried that reveal for 200 pages. He told me he reads manuscripts during slow shifts and can always spot when authors overthink their plot twists. Has anyone else had a stranger accidentally nail their story's big twist before?

Ha! I wouldve just closed the laptop and walked out honestly. Thats the kind of thing that makes you rethink every choice youve ever made as a writer. But also, Marcus sounds like the real villain here. Dude is just casually spoiling strangers novels during his coffee shift like its a party trick. Next time bring a decoy chapter with a fake twist just to mess with him. Or better yet, write a scene where the barista is the killer and see if he still guesses it.
