Walked into a NOC last month and counted 8 different monitoring tools on one wall of screens

I was visiting a buddy who works at a medium sized MSP in Austin and I swear they had like 8 different dashboards up for monitoring. Nagios, PRTG, SolarWinds, Datadog, some custom thing, a SIEM, and two I couldn't even name. Reminded me of 2010 when we ran everything off one terminal window and a pager. How did we get here? Has anyone else noticed monitoring tool sprawl getting way worse than it used to be?

@cole_mitchell8 you hit on something real. But here's the angle nobody brings up - half those tools are probably there because of vendor lock in from some sales guy years ago. I saw a shop running three monitoring platforms just because each one had a different set of alarms the senior admin was too scared to migrate. Nobody wants to be the person who breaks something by turning off the old system.
