Can we talk about how everyone says to just 'post more content' for SEO?

I ran into this big problem last month where my site's traffic just dropped off a cliff. Everyone in the forums kept saying to just publish more blog posts, that volume was key. So I spent three weeks, I'm not kidding, writing and publishing a new post every single day. I used up all my good ideas. After 21 posts and zero traffic improvement, I finally dug into Google Search Console. Turns out, a bunch of my older, good pages had gotten thin content flags from an algorithm update I missed. All that new writing was a total waste of time. Fixing the old pages, which took another two weeks of real work, is what finally started moving the needle. Has anyone else gotten burned by following the 'just post more' advice without checking the basics first?

Man, that is the absolute TRUTH. The "just post more" crowd drives me nuts. I did the same thing a while back, pumping out articles like a machine. It got me nowhere but tired. You hit the real issue, it's like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in the bottom. Fixing the foundation, those older pages, is the ONLY thing that works. All that new content just sits there if Google already decided your site has problems. Quality over quantity every single time, but people want a quick fix.

Yeah, the "fixing the foundation is the ONLY thing that works" part is so close. I'd say it's the first thing, not the only thing. You patch the hole in the bucket first, for sure. But then you still gotta pour some new, good water in. Once your old pages are solid, that new quality content actually has something to stand on. It's a one-two punch, not just one move.

That totally lines up with something I heard from a SEO podcast the other day actually. They were saying Google's algorithm basically does a "site reputation check" before it even bothers looking at new posts. If your site has a bunch of thin, broken, or outdated pages, it's like showing up to a job interview in dirty clothes. @andrew7 nailed it when they said it's a one-two punch. You gotta clean up the mess first, then make sure your new stuff is actually worth reading. I swear half the people on here skip step one then wonder why their traffic flatlines.
