Google Ads used to be a numbers game for me, now I'm all about audience signals

Last year I was running broad match keywords with high bids and hoping for the best. I spent about $2,000 in my first month on a local campaign in Austin and got like 3 conversions. Then I took a course that drilled into audience signals and custom segments. Now I layer in-market audiences on top of my keywords and my cost per conversion dropped from $600 to $150 in about 6 weeks. Has anyone else seen a big shift when they stopped relying on keywords alone?

Wait, did you really get 3 conversions from $2,000 on broad match? That feels way off, like your keywords or landing page must have been totally wrong from the start. I mean, audience signals definitely help, but that drop from $600 to $150 sounds more like fixing a broken setup than just layering audiences on top.

Kind of reminds me of that article I read about how broad match can work if your campaign structure is already tight. Sounds like they were just burning money on junk terms.
