Paid $30 for a Geocities archive CD and it was pure gold

Found someone selling a CD full of saved Geocities pages from 1999, mostly fan shrines for bands that never made it big. Was half expecting it to be junk but it had like 200 fully preserved pages with working guestbooks. Anyone else ever buy weird old internet memorabilia like that?

Gotta say I'm kind of skeptical about this whole thing... I mean, paying $30 for a CD of dead web pages seems a bit much, even if it is nostalgia bait. Sure, some of those band shrines might be interesting if you're really into early internet history, but let's be real, most of them were just people rambling about their niche tastes with bad HTML. The working guestbooks thing is neat, but I bet half of them are just spam bots or empty by now. Doesn't seem like something that serious unless you're trying to write a thesis on forgotten bands or something.

Is it really just nostalgia bait though @allen.amy? I grabbed a copy and found some genuinely interesting music recommendations buried in those ugly pages, stuff that never made it to Spotify or YouTube. The guestbooks are hit or miss but a few had real people pop back in recently, making it feel less like a dead archive and more like a weird living time capsule.
