Just realized I found way more interesting stuff when I stopped using the library's main search and just walked the stacks.
I was trying to find books on local history for a project. The online catalog kept giving me the same five popular titles. So last week I just went to the 974.1 section and spent an hour browsing. Found a handwritten index card tucked in a book from 1972 about a mill that got torn down, which led me to three other books the system never showed. The algorithm just surfaces what's been checked out a lot. The physical shelf has the weird, specific stuff that never gets clicked on.

My professor calls that getting "shelf lucky," and it's so true.
