My $80 mistake with rain barrels last spring

I got two rain barrels off Craigslist for cheap, but didn't check the downspout diverter kit until after a big storm in April. Water flooded right past the connection and soaked my basement wall near the garden hose bib. Had to rip out the whole setup and spend another $50 on a proper Oatey kit just to make it work. Anyone else trust a used system and regret it right away?

Third time's the charm right? That's what I keep telling myself after buying the cheap version of the same damn thing three times now. My wife just rolls her eyes at me when I come home with the "budget friendly" option knowing full well it'll be back in the trash within a week. I've spent enough on the cheap stuff to buy a whole new system at this point.
