Tried finding a new hiking spot without any apps, just an old paper map

I was cleaning out my truck and found a 2012 state park map from the glove box. Decided to follow a trail marked 'unmaintained' near the north ridge. Ended up at a small waterfall that isn't on any park website or trail guide. It took about 3 hours round trip and my boots are wrecked, but it felt like a real discovery. Has anyone else found a cool place just by ignoring the digital stuff and looking at old paper?

A 2012 map? That thing is basically a historical document at this point. Following an "unmaintained" trail from it is a whole different level of brave, or maybe crazy. My boots would be in pieces after just looking at that route. Finding a secret waterfall that way is the coolest reward for ignoring every modern piece of advice.

Unmaintained" on an old map just means bring extra socks.
