Update: I was hunting for a specific type of antique glass insulator online for months with no luck.
I was about to give up when I decided to just drive out to a small flea market in Bakersfield on a whim. Found the exact one, with the right blue tint and patent date, sitting on a table under a tarp. I had been letting search engines and saved alerts do all the work for me, and it got me nowhere. When was the last time you found something you really wanted by just going out and looking the old way?

Funny how the algorithm can't replicate the smell of old canvas and dust. Sometimes you just have to get your shoes dirty.

Actually went to a museum last month that had a full sensory room for a van Gogh exhibit. They pumped in smells of wheat fields and linseed oil. It was pretty close. The tech is getting there, and it means more people can experience things they never could in real life. Getting your shoes dirty is a choice, not a requirement for a real connection to art.

That's the smell of mildew, @elliots49.
