Why does nobody talk about the old water tower in Springfield?

I was walking near the west side of town last month and saw the whole thing is covered in faded shipping labels. Not graffiti, actual paper tags from the 1970s. They're stuck under layers of paint and rust. I spent an hour just looking at the old company names and addresses. Has anyone else found a spot like this where history is just glued to the wall?

It's like a time capsule of dead businesses, just slowly peeling away.

That old Kmart near my house still has a blue light special sign up. Makes me wonder who was the last person to turn it off and just walk away. These places feel less like time capsules and more like abandoned movie sets.

Hit up your local historical society or town clerk, they might have old photos or records of what those labels were for. Bring a camera and take close ups of the tags before they flake off completely, the glue degrades fast once the paint starts peeling. Also check if the water tower is on any historic registry, sometimes that protects the old layers from being painted over.
