I just threw out $200 worth of that 'high-temp' spray-on mold release after it caked up and ruined a whole pour.

The rep swore it would cut our cleaning time in half, but it baked onto the pattern and we lost a full shift's work scraping it off... what's a release agent you guys actually trust for iron castings?

Had the same thing happen with a different brand last year. We switched to a basic graphite wash for our iron work, the kind you brush on. It's messy but it never bakes on. Why do they keep selling us stuff that makes more work?

My neighbor's fancy spray-on stuff did the same thing, just flaked right off after one season.

Was it actually a high temp release or just labeled that way? A lot of those sprays are really meant for lower temp metals like aluminum. For iron, you need something rated for way higher heat, which is why the old school graphite washes still work.
