Just realized everyone at the Tacoma plant was wrong about cleaning the sand hopper
They all said you need to shut down for a full hour to do a deep clean on the main sand hopper. I tried a trick from an old manual I found, using a compressed air lance at a 45 degree angle while the system is at low idle. Got it done in 15 minutes with no buildup issues for a week now. Has anyone else tried running a clean cycle without a full shutdown?

That sounds like a good way to create a serious dust hazard or damage the internal baffles. Running any kind of clean cycle without a full shutdown goes against every safety protocol I've ever seen. The hour shutdown is there to let everything cool and settle for a reason.

@casey943 I think you're right about the dust hazard and baffles, although an hour might be overkill with some newer units that have better insulation and settling systems. A solid 20-30 minute cool down is usually plenty with the updated gear.

Safety rules are just guidelines that sometimes slow down real work for no good reason.
