My silly mistake with the old color chart method

Back in the day, we used a paper color wheel to check metal heat instead of gadgets. I followed it wrong once and poured a batch that came out shaped like a potato. What goofy things happened when you trusted the old ways?

But wasn't that color chart for tempering, not pouring?

I always assumed those charts were just for tempering too. Then I saw a demo where they used the same chart for pouring mixes, and it made perfect sense. The heat colors translate well to how thick the poured material gets. Now I keep that chart handy for both processes. It saved me a lot of guesswork on a recent project.
