Shoutout to the apron I never wore until a melt splash

That close call with hot stuff made me suit up every time.

Right? Why do we always wait for the scare? I had that moment with bacon grease popping onto my favorite sweatpants. Now the apron goes on before I even unwrap the package. Tomato sauce bubbles over, oil spits, it doesn't matter. It just becomes part of the process, like washing your hands first. You stop even thinking about it after a while, you just feel naked cooking without it.

Watching my cousin splash hot oil on his shirt taught me to wear an apron before even turning on the stove. Now I put it on with my keys and wallet, like part of getting ready to cook. That habit saved my good clothes more than once when things bubbled over by surprise. Safety gear should be routine, not a reaction to almost getting hurt. It's like wearing a seatbelt every drive, not just after a near miss.

Ever try to cook in a white shirt like you're on a cooking show? I did once, and now that shirt is my dedicated "splatter art" shirt. I guess my brain needs the visual reminder to put the apron on first, because I clearly can't be trusted. It's a good system, if a little hard on my wardrobe.
