Unpopular opinion: I thought the new ceramic foam filters were just a gimmick.

After seeing a clean pour from a 50-pound aluminum melt at the Tacoma shop last month, I had to admit they trap way more slag than the old screens. Anyone run into issues with them cracking during pre-heat?

Pre-heat them way slower than you think you need to. Ramping up the torch too fast is what causes those cracks. Let it warm up evenly for a good five minutes before you bring the heat right up on it.

Unpopular opinion" is right, you're just late to the party. Mine cracked once, but I probably heated it like an idiot.

Unpopular opinion is right" but my friend tried the slow preheat trick and still got a crack, so who really knows.
